Family Fun on St. Patrick’s Day

Written By: Jessie White

Every March all Chicagoans prepare for the excitement that is to come: St. Patrick’s Day. One of Chicago’s favorite holidays and numerous events will be taking place all over the city throughout March in preparation of the city turning its annual shade of emerald. This holiday is fun for the whole family and you’ll want to make sure to check some of these events out before the leprechauns decide to go in hiding!

 Forever Green

Theatre on the Lake – March 8th

One of Chicago’s longest-running St. Patrick’s Day celebrations is the “Forever Green” party which this year will take place at Theatre on the Lake, located in Lincoln Park. The party starts at 7 pm. Ticket proceeds go to local Irish charities and there is fun for the whole family with traditional Irish dancing and music that anyone in the family would love!

Watch the Dyeing of the Chicago River and Chicago Day Parade

Michigan Avenue Bridge and Grant Park- March 16

What better way to celebrate the holiday than by watching the Chicago River run green and then heading over to the parade route near Grant Park? The river dyeing will begin around 9 am and will maintain that radiant hue for around 5 hours. The parade begins around noon and runs all the way from Balbo Drive to Monroe so there is a ton of space to find a perfect spot to bear witness to all of the festivities the parade has to offer. From bagpipers to Irish step dancers you will want the whole family to see this!
