Earth Day is right around the corner and Chicago is prepared for the occasion. Chicago is one of the most populated cities in the country which means that the city definitely needs to take steps in order to make sure that its biological footprint is a minimal one. Throughout the month of April in various parts of the city there are amazing opportunities to take advantage of the natural beauty of Chicago all the while taking steps in order to keep Chicago, and this planet, beautiful.
Earth Day 5K and 10K
Want to run a 5K or a 10K…virtually? The Earth Day 5K is a virtual race that allows you to run your own course, anywhere you like, on your own time. Simply record and submit your time and receive a beautiful Earth Day medal in the mail! Registration is only $20 and 15% of the proceeds will go to Wild Earth Allies, a conservation program that dedicates its effort to conserve wildlife and habitats in culturally appropriate ways.
Evergreen Park Earth Day Clean-Up
Want to help clean up the surrounding Chicago communities on Earth Day? On April 27th from 9 am to 12 pm, the Evergreen Park Advisory Council will be leading a group of volunteers around the city picking up debris and trash to give the city a nice face lift for the Earth Day celebration! Registration is free and there’s also a party in Humboldt Park at 11 am thrown by Friends of the Parks that all Earth Day volunteers are invited to attend.
Check out the Lincoln Park Zoo
One of the gems of Chicago is the city’s zoo at the edge of Lake Michigan in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. The Lincoln Park Zoo is free admission and is the perfect place to educate yourself about Earth’s precious habitats and see for yourself the animals that we are taking steps to protect. Check out the sea lion exhibit or maybe the cat house to see the city’s wild side while enjoying Earth Day in Chicago!
