For every tragedy there is also comedy. With every yin there is a yang. And with every polar vortex there is a beautiful Spring season waiting just around the corner to remind all Chicagoans why we love where we choose to live. Spring is the birth of patio season, bringing in amazing food and drink specials enjoyed on the streets of the city. Spring brings concerts and festivals, drawing crowds from all parts of Illinois. Spring is also the time when Chicagoans begin ditching the trips to Whole Foods and instead opt for local farmers markets to purchase their grocery needs in the spirit of warmer weather. Chicago is the home of countless farmers markets located in almost every neighborhood of the city so we know that choosing a market to attend can be an overwhelming task. Which is why we have chosen a few of our all-time favorite farmers markets and encourage anyone living in or even traveling through Chicago to check them out!
The Green City Market – Lincoln Park
The Green City Market is a must-see solely due to how long this farmers market has been operating as Chicago’s largest and first year-round farmers market. Chicago winters have got nothing on this farmers market as this year will be the market’s 19th anniversary. The market has two outdoor season locations, one in the West Loop and one in Lincoln Park, which is where the market takes place even in the brisker months of the year.
The Green City Market takes place every Wednesday and Saturday from May to October from 7 am to 1 pm. Check out their website for a list of the amazing vendors that travel for this awesome market!
The Daley Plaza Farmers Market
The Daley Plaza Farmers Market gives Chicagoans in the Loop a chance to grab some grocery items before catching the train home, located in the center of downtown at 50 W Washington. The Daley Center’s Picasso statue is worth the journey alone but you’ll want to make sure you visit one of the local vendors before you head on your way. The Daley Plaza Farmers Market opens for the season on May 9th and provides locals fresh produce and items every Thursday from 7 am to 3 pm.
The Andersonville Farmers Market
Love visiting farmers markets but your schedule conflicts with checking out the Daley Plaza or Green City Market? Have no fear, the Andersonville Farmers Market is here! The 2019 season will be celebrating the markets’ 10 year anniversary and runs from May to October on Wednesdays from 3 pm to 8 pm, giving Chicagoans a chance to grab some items to prepare for that night’s dinner! The Andersonville Farmers Market is a collection of local vendors and farmers that want to give you some of your best grocery trips of the year!
